Detailed Review
The Smith & Wesson Model 640 is a popular revolver that has been around since 1990. It is a small, compact handgun that is often used for concealed carry or as a backup firearm for law enforcement officers. The Model 640 has undergone several updates and improvements over the years, making it a reliable and versatile option.
The Model 640 is chambered in .357 Magnum, which provides plenty of stopping power for self-defense situations. However, it can also fire .38 Special rounds, which are cheaper and have less recoil. The 640's barrel length is 2.125 inches, making it easy to maneuver in tight spaces or carry discreetly.
The revolver's frame is made from lightweight aluminum alloy, which helps reduce the overall weight of the firearm. The cylinder is made from stainless steel, which provides durability and rust resistance. The grips are made from synthetic materials that offer a comfortable and secure hold on the weapon. Additionally, the sights are adjustable and can be easily modified to fit individual preferences.
The Model 640 features Smith & Wesson's patented Internal Locking System (ILS), which allows the user to lock the firearm and prevent unauthorized access. This feature is especially useful for those who have children in the home or who want an extra level of security when storing the gun. The ILS can be engaged or disengaged with a special key, which is included with the revolver.
In terms of performance, the Model 640 is a reliable and accurate firearm. It has a smooth trigger pull that allows for precise shooting. The double-action trigger requires a longer pull than most semi-automatic pistols, but experienced shooters will appreciate the added control and accuracy that comes with this design.
The Smith & Wesson Model 640 is a great option for those who need a compact, reliable revolver for self-defense or backup purposes. Its lightweight design, versatile caliber options, and advanced safety features make it a popular choice among civilians and law enforcement alike.

January 2, 2018Extremely impressed with this firearm. Exactly as described in the many informational YouTube videos. Of all the J-frame .357 S&W revolvers, the 640 Pro steel-framed model from the Performance Center with the tritium night sights is the one to own.
