Detailed Review

The E.M.F. Company was founded in 1883 by Benjamin F. Joslyn and incorporated in August 1884. It was originally named the Joslyn Manufacturing and Supply Company. In 1898, the company changed its name again to the E.M.F. Company, a reference to its line of pistols named after the motto "Every Man For himself." The company was located in Brooklyn, New York, until it moved to Wayne, Michigan, in 1907.

The E.M.F. Company produced a wide range of firearms, including handguns, rifles, shotguns, and even machine guns. Their most famous products were the E.M.F. Californian revolver and the Hartford revolver. The Californian revolver was chambered in .44-40 Winchester, which was a popular cartridge at the time. It had a six-round cylinder and a 5.5-inch barrel. The revolver was known for its accuracy and reliability and was popular with cowboys and lawmen alike.

The Hartford revolver was similar to the Californian but was chambered in .45 Colt. It also had a six-round cylinder and a 5.5-inch barrel but had a slightly different design. Both revolvers were single-action, meaning that the user had to manually cock the hammer before firing each shot.

The E.M.F. Company also produced rifles, including the Sharps rifle and the Hawken rifle. The Sharps rifle was a single-shot rifle that was popular with buffalo hunters in the late 1800s. The Hawken rifle was a muzzle-loading rifle that was popular with mountain men and fur trappers in the early 1800s.

The E.M.F. Company had a reputation for producing high-quality firearms, and its products were used by law enforcement agencies, military units, and civilians around the world. The company continued to produce firearms until World War II, when it shifted its focus to manufacturing other products for the war effort.

Today, the E.M.F. Company is still in business and produces replica firearms based on their historical designs. These replicas are popular with collectors, reenactors, and enthusiasts who appreciate the history and craftsmanship of these classic firearms.
