Detailed Review
Traditions Pennsylvania Percussion is a musical group that specializes in traditional Pennsylvania Dutch music. The group was formed in the early 1980s, with a focus on preserving and celebrating the rich musical heritage of this unique culture.
The Pennsylvania Dutch, also known as the Pennsylvania Germans, are a group of people who immigrated to Pennsylvania from Germany and Switzerland in the 18th and 19th centuries. They brought with them a rich tradition of folk music, which has been passed down through generations.
Traditions Pennsylvania Percussion combines traditional instruments such as the dulcimer, accordion, and harmonica with percussion instruments like the washboard and spoons, to create a distinctive sound that is both energetic and infectious.
The group performs at festivals, fairs, and other events throughout Pennsylvania and beyond. Their lively performances are always a hit with audiences of all ages, and they are known for getting the crowd up and dancing.
One of the highlights of Traditions Pennsylvania Percussion's performances is the "chicken dance." This is a traditional dance that originated in Germany, and has become a staple of Pennsylvania Dutch culture. The band encourages audience participation, and everyone is invited to join in the fun.
Another popular feature of their shows is the "jam session." This is when members of the group and other musicians who are present are invited to come up on stage and play together. This creates a spontaneous and unique musical experience that is always a crowd-pleaser.
Traditions Pennsylvania Percussion also offers educational programs for schools and other groups. These programs teach students about the history and culture of the Pennsylvania Dutch, as well as the importance of preserving traditional music.
The group has released several albums over the years, including "Stompin' at the Fair" and "Old-Time Favorites." These albums showcase their unique sound and highlight some of the best-loved songs of the Pennsylvania Dutch tradition.
If you are interested in experiencing the rich musical heritage of the Pennsylvania Dutch, be sure to check out Traditions Pennsylvania Percussion at one of their upcoming performances. Their lively performances and infectious energy are sure to leave you singing and dancing along.
