Detailed Review
The FN M249S is a semi-automatic version of the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW), which was designed and manufactured by Fabrique Nationale (FN) Herstal in Belgium. The M249S was first introduced to the U.S. civilian market in 2016 and has since become a popular choice for both firearm enthusiasts and collectors.
The M249S features a 16.1-inch barrel and is chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. It has an overall length of 40.75 inches, a weight of 17 pounds, and a detachable box magazine that can hold up to 200 rounds of ammunition. The firearm also features a carrying handle, a folding bipod, and a Picatinny rail system that allows for the attachment of various accessories.
One of the most notable features of the M249S is its gas-operated, open bolt system, which is similar to the original military version. This system allows for a high rate of fire, making it ideal for suppressive fire and laying down covering fire for troops. However, the semi-automatic design of the M249S means that it is not capable of fully automatic fire.
Another unique aspect of the M249S is its construction. The receiver, barrel, and stock are made from high-strength polymer, which significantly reduces the overall weight of the firearm. This lightweight design makes the M249S comfortable to carry and maneuver, despite its length and weight.
In addition to its impressive firepower and construction, the M249S is also easy to disassemble and maintain. The firearm breaks down into four main components, which can be quickly and easily removed for cleaning and maintenance. This ease of maintenance ensures that the M249S remains reliable and functional over time.
The FN M249S has quickly become a favorite among firearm enthusiasts and collectors, thanks to its unique design, impressive firepower, and ease of maintenance. Whether you're looking for a reliable firearm for target shooting or a collectible piece for your collection, the M249S is certainly worth considering.

December 9, 2017I do like the 249, and indeed all FN crew served wpns, but given a choice I'd take the 240 any day of the week. Spent time as a gunner and AG for both weapons and the 249 is just finnicky. The 240 never failed me, I love that weapo

Ah that brings back a lot of memories. I use to be a M249 gunner in the Army Reserves after they took away my M60 from our unit and replaced them with M249's instead of M240's. I wasn't too happy about that but we ended up with more firepower as we then h
