The Marlin Model 1889 was made from 1889 to 1899. Around 55,073 of them were made in that time with round but mostly octagonal 24 or 28 inch barrel. Other barrel lengths were available, like 26, 30 and 32 inches. Carbine version with 20 inch barrel was made from 1890. Half-length magazines were optional but uncommon. U.S.A./PATENTED OCT.11.1887.APRIL.2.1889. Top of the frame marked: MARLIN SAFETY. The Marlin Model 1889 was also known as the Marlin New Safety Repeater. Original price in 1889 was $21.50 for octagonal barrel version and $20.00 for round barrel version. The Marlin Model 1889 has plain walnut straight stock so optional pistol grip stock with checkering was $4 extra.
