The SV-98 sniper rifle (Grau 6V10) was desingned in late 1990's in Izhmash and it was adopted by Russian special forces in 2003. Today it is used by Interior Ministry, FSB, FSO and the Ministry of Justice. The SV-98 is designed to engage various targets at a range up to 1000 m. The rifle is magazine-fed and manually reloaded. It is possible to mount both Russian made and foreign-made sights. To mount sights, there is a Picatinny rail on the receiver top. Standard optical sight 1P69 makes it possible to accurately engage targets with variable magnification within 3-10x. The SV-98 is equipped with an open sight. The rifle safety catch locks the trigger, inerts the sear and prevents the rotary bolt from turning (unlocking). The stock is comfortable for shooting both from the left and right shoulders. The buttstock length is adjustable. Position of the butt plate and comb adjusts by length and height. There is a bipod in the forearm and a leg in the buttstock; adjustment of each leg is independent. In travel position the bipod is folded into the forearm, and the rear leg – into the buttstock, and, thus, do not enlarge overall dimensions of the weapon. To reduce sound blast, blowback and flash, the SV-98 can be supplied with a tactical silencer TGP-V that significantly reducing muzzle flash but also recoil momentum (approximately 30%).
