Erfurt Imperial Arsenal Luger 1914 Erfurt Artillery

The Luger 1914 Artillery was made from from 1914 to 1918.Many thousands were produced with 1 to 5 digit serial numbers with letter. The Luger P08 semi automatic pistol is one of the most famous firearms of the 20th century. It was a standard sidearm of the German, Swiss, and other armies for a period spanning nearly a half century, and produced in large quantities. Long barrelled Luger P08 (nicknamed the "Artillery Pistol") with a long 8 inch barrel was issued in World War I to German artillery crews. It was manufactured with a longer barrel as it was recognized that artillery crew needed a lighter weapon than a rifle but with similar accuracy to defend themselves. It had a newly developed pistol cartridge, the 9mm Parabellum, which was designed for low recoil without sacrificing penetration and stopping power. The most distinctive feature of the Luger is undoubtedly the toggle-lock mechanism, which holds the breech closed by locking in a manner not unlike the human knee, which can sustain a heavy weight when straight, but once bent, is quite easy to continue to bend. Action: Toggle locked, recoil. Muzzle Velocity: 1,200 fps. Range: 866 yards (800 meters - according to the rear sight). Weight of Round - 115 gr. Magazine Capacity: 8 round box or 32 round drum magazine and a detachable wooden stock. German Erfurt Imperial Arsenal started making Lugers after 1908 when Luger become adopted by German Army. Orders from army were too big for DWM to fulfill so Erfurt Imperial Arsenal was appointed as co-manufacturer. All Lugers made by Erfurt have a large crown surmounting the name "Erfurt," stamped on the forward toggle link instead of the DWM trademark
