Shotguns Descriptions

Darne V Special Edition

The main characteristic of the Model V is its sliding-breech activated by a key-lever - easily manoeuvred, opened and loaded with two fingers. Using a small amount of pressure, one pushes the mechanism forward with the palm of the hand, compelling it to lock smoothly into place. The sliding breech remains aligned with the barrels through forces of compression. Headspace is extremely tight for a better range and the lowest recoil, thanks to convergent obturator disks {Darne Patent). Percussion is ensured by two arming nuts acting on the top of the sears. The security of this mechanism is reinforced by a double safety-trigger which prevents accidental shots from being fired. Fine adjustment of the firing-pin allows the smoothest start. The safety-trigger, activated by a button on the side of the breech, commands the sears in cocking position. It is thus safer than normal safety triggers. It is impossible to keep one’s fingers on the trigger while loading the gun. This renders the trigger definitively safe. As a matter of fact, the only way to load a Darne Model V is to lock the breechblock by pushing the key lever, with a natural hand-motion. AII Darne guns come with automatic and selective ejectors. They are composed of two classic extractors and of two hooks pulling out fired shells, at the end of breech-block course. Darne barrels are bored in specialist steel tubes, polished entirely, soft-soldered at low temperatures in order to preserve their steel structure and recovered with several coats of bronze. So, these barrels have a high ballistic efficiency. Three types of ribs are offered: a decreasing rib, also called a "plume" rib; a straight rib, or a rib with inverted tiles. Stock and fore-end selected walnuts, dried in our workshops, are made by hand, with half-pistol or English straight-grips and a chequered pattern. As an alternative to standard fore-ends, Darne offers a beaver tail-type. Darne’s engraving team were nominated "Best French Workers", (a high craftman's distinction). They execute engravings according to each client’s preferences.
