Mossberg 801 Plinkster 37005
Here's a bolt action single shot .22LR rifle designed specifically for young shooters as an ideal starter gun. The Half Pint's 12 1/4" length of pull, 16" barrel, and 4 pound weight make for a rifle that mounts easily, even for the smallest of shooters. And all the necessary features are there - a grooved receiver for the easy mounting of a scope when the time comes; a free floating barrel and fully adjustable iron sights. As your young shooter becomes more familiar with the gun and more experienced, the removable magazine plug can be replaced with an optional 10-shot magazine, easily converting the Half Pint into a repeater.
