Merkel KR1

The short confi guration of the action is emphasized by the shape of the design. The entire lock and chamber area is covered by the form-fi tted action housing. The design not only looks good, but also protects the system from contamination due to external elements such as dirt and mud. With an overall length of less than 40 inches, it is one of the most compact rifl es available today. The new KR1 has been systematically designed to meet all practical hunting needs. The short bolt, short bolt movement and small angle of rotation are all modern innovations which characterize this new system. Fast reloading and reliable shooting are easy with this responsive rifle. Short stroke bolt action for outstanding response and short overall length. Small opening angle for fast repeatable shooting. Heavy, reliable rotary bolt head with six locking lugs. The three-way safety allows the chamber to be opened in the center position while still in safety mode. When the safety is in its most rear position, the bolt is locked as a safeguard to prevent inadvertent opening or loading. Combination trigger with set trigger. The optimum trigger for any situation. Changing calibers on the Merkel KR1 is safe and easy due to its innovative modular design. This feature gives this rifl e added versatility to be modifi ed for use in all conditions and for hunting a variety of game species. Frequent disassembly or caliber changes have no effect on the point of impact of the rifl e. The barrel is easily removed with a hexagonal wrench. There are modular locking bolt heads and magazines for the various caliber groups which can easily be matched with the desired caliber of the barrel to be installed. The magazine is located above the trigger on this short-action system. Merkel developed a practical solution to allow the user to quickly detach the magazine. The cover pivots downward so that the magazine can be easily removed. In this position the gun is safe and the set trigger is automatically disengaged. The large, easily accessible loading port makes it easily to reload quickly, even when the scope is mounted on the gun.
