Marlin Firearms 1897
The Marlin Model 1897 was an improved version of the Model 1892 and it was made from 1897 to 1917. Approximately 81,000 of them were made in that time. It was made only as take-down rifle, with barrel lengths of 24, 26 and 28 inches. Barrels were round, octagonal or half round/half octagonal with full or half magazines. It had steel or hard rubber butt plate. Upper tang was marked: MODEL 1897 or on later production: MARLIN MODEL '97. Original price in 1897 for 24 inch round barrel version was $15.35 and for 24 inch octagonal barrel version $16.80, for 26 inch round barrel version was $16.85 and for 26 inch octagonal barrel version $18.30 and for 28 inch round barrel version was $18.35 and for 28 inch octagonal barrel version $19.80.
