Izhmash Biatlon 7-3

The sporting rifles, model "Biathlon", are intended for biathlon shooting at 50 m range. The "Biathlon-7-3" and "Biathlon-7-??" are preferred for women and juniors, while "Biathlon-7-4", "Biathlon-7-4A" are for men. All the models are also come in a "left-hander" version and with a safety. The barrel bore locking system of a crank type with vertical axes of rotation allows it to reload the rifle quickly and without changing the ready position of a shooter. The position of the center of masses in the rifle is adjusted by balancing weights. Provision is made for the covers to protect the barrel bore, front sight and dioptrical sight from dirt. The trigger mechanism permits it to adjust the trigger pull, trigger travel and trigger release character by means of adjusting screws without stripping the rifle. The mechanism features an additional hammer interlocking device to perform blank training shooting. The "Biathlon-7-??" and "Biathlon-7-4A" are furnished with barrels made by "Anschutz". The stock adjustable in length by spaces and a cheek adjustable in the vertical and horizontal planes allow it to assume the most favorable and correct position for shooting. The stock is fitted with a holder to carry extra magazines. The quick-detachable sling consists of two parts - a loop and a belt. The shoulder belt is of a peculiar design with elastic components. The rifle is complete with two types of magazines: a standard one holding five cartridges and a magazine with a cover holding three extra cartridges. The 5.6 mm (.22 LR) rim-fire cartridges are used for firing. The maximum operating pressure of powder combustion gases should not exceed 180 MPa (1836kgf/sq.cm). Characteristic features of the barrel bore, cartridge chamber and the interlocking device allow it to use the home-made and foreign cartridges as well.
