Most polular model vas with 24 inch octagonal barrel. Serial numbers starting at 25,000 and finishing around 100,000. Barrel is marked: MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO., NEW-HAVEN, CT. U.S.A./PATENTED OCT.11.1887.APRIL.2.1889. Top of the frame marked: MARLIN SAFETY. The Marlin Model 1889 was also known as the Marlin New Safety Repeater.
