Detailed Review
The Winchester Model 1895 is a lever-action rifle designed by John Browning and produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. It was first introduced in 1895, and quickly became popular with hunters, soldiers, and sportsmen alike for its reliability and accuracy.
The Model 1895 features a box magazine instead of a tube magazine, allowing it to be chambered in higher-powered cartridges than previous Winchester rifles. It was initially offered in .30-40 Krag and .303 British, and later in other calibers such as .35 Winchester, .405 Winchester, and even the powerful .50 BMG.
The action of the Model 1895 is a strong, simple, and reliable design that has stood the test of time. It utilizes a rotating bolt head that locks into a recess in the barrel, providing a secure lockup that can handle the pressures of high-powered cartridges. The lever is large and easy to manipulate, making it easy to cycle the action quickly and smoothly.
The stock of the Model 1895 is made from high-quality walnut, and features a straight grip and a crescent-shaped buttplate. The forend is also made from walnut, and is held in place by a barrel band. The finish of the rifle can vary depending on the model and year of production, but most feature a blued or case-hardened finish.
Over the years, the Model 1895 has been used in a wide variety of applications. It was used by Teddy Roosevelt on his famous African safari, by Russian troops during World War I, and by American soldiers during the Philippine-American War. It has also been a favorite among hunters for its accuracy and reliability, and is still a popular choice for big game hunting today.
If you're looking for a classic lever-action rifle with a rich history and proven performance, the Winchester Model 1895 is a great choice. Whether you're hunting, shooting at the range, or simply collecting firearms, the Model 1895 is a true American classic that is sure to impress.
