This is a true target shooting round, loaded with a 165 grain projectile that’s light enough to let a 4” barrel deliver a muzzle velocity of 1,060 fps. If your self-defense loads also have 165 grain bullets, then this ammo’s going to deliver virtually apples-to-apples recoil and ballistic performance. This round’s bullet is the essential FMJ. That’s the economical solution for target shooting when terminal expansion does not matter, with a solid lead core and pure copper alloy jacket to promote smoother feeding and lighter barrel fouling. Browning does not load magnetic projectiles! This ammunition hails from Alton, Illinois, where it was loaded with clean-burning propellant and non-corrosive Boxer primers.
